The AARP recently published a list of things to do when a loved one dies:

This is a nicely-organized list of practical things to do, grouped around the time frame. As a lawyer quoted in the article says, “the amount of paperwork can take survivors by surprise.”
The article also notes that these are not tasks for one person. The survivor needs help from others, including professionals, family, and friends.
